A little about me…
I am originally from a small town near Tulsa, Oklahoma, although my children and I relocated to New Jersey during the summer of 2000. In August 2016, I relocated once again to the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia, nestled in the Shenandoah Valley and in the heart of Appalachia.
I received my certification in Early Childhood Education in both Oklahoma and New Jersey, and have earned both Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts degrees in that field. I also have earned a Master of Science degree in Instructional Technology, with an emphasis in Higher Education. Currently, I have completed all of my coursework and am considered “ABD” (all but dissertation) toward my doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction (EDD/CI). I hope to finish that journey very soon.
In Oklahoma, I taught kindergarten for two years before moving to New Jersey. From 2002-2013, I taught in a (small) private school in the New York City metro area -- first and second grade (seven years); a variety of other courses as needed in grades K-12 (including technology/computer classes and computer-based world language courses); and high school English and literature (five years). During my tenure there, I served as Co-Director of the school's preschool/daycare center, Head of the Early Childhood Department, and Preschool Curriculum Developer. I also enjoyed the opportunity to help coordinate a variety of annual fundraisers, direct and produce various dramatic and musical presentations, direct the high school chorus, and provide teacher training and support as needed. I also experienced many opportunities to teach and provide intense English language immersion courses for international students from China, South Korea, Thailand, Mexico, Brazil, and Portugal.
I have taught all ages of students – from birth through adult – and currently spend my days serving as a full-time instructor, academic advisor, and Specialization Coordinator within the Early Education program at Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, WV. I have been spending my evenings and weekends in the online classroom environment as an Adjunct Professor and Course Lead in the Department of Educational Studies within the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences at Kaplan University since 2012.
I have two "adult" children who are both college students – and my hobbies include reading, spending time with my family, taking long walks and playing with my dogs (Kylo Ren & Sadie), watching a variety of shows on TV and Netflix, and road-tripping around the country as often as possible.
